Synopsis

This week we discuss the exciting life and career of Cherry Vanilla. Cherry Vanilla has certainly lived life to the fullest. At just 19 she was one of the first, and certainly youngest women managing major clients at an ad agency (Think Mad Men!) while also breaking barriers as the first female DJ in the NYC nightclub scene. After watching the documentary Groupies Cherry had "At last had a name and a vision for the role I'd been dying to play for so long, along with an awareness of a sisterhood of like-minded role models.” Cherry wasn't just a part of the music scene though, she also participated in the "Theatre of the Ridiculous" working with people like Jayne County and many regulars from the Warhol factory scene. In 1971 she starred in Andy Warhol's London production of Pork. It was while there that she met David Bowie, who had yet to break onto the American charts.
