    12/08/2019 Duration: 01h01min

His wife, also a nurse practitioner, started Elite Fitness Now to help individuals recover from injury, as well as train and remain injury free. Mike serves as the voice and face of Elite Fitness Now. We talked about Mike's personal injuries which he still has to deal with daily as well as everything from mobility, overtraining, and hormones, to procrastination and honesty. • Episode 32: Big Idea Saturday- Controlling Media Usage

    10/08/2019 Duration: 12min

We are all guilty of it. Constantly browsing social media for longer and longer periods, watching too much YouTube and Netflix. It seems like these days it's much too easy to be constantly plugged into our media. From the time we wake up to the time we fall asleep we bombard ourselves with these stimuli. I had to come to terms with how severe my overuse was a while back and I still struggle with it at times. I had a lot of fun talking with Alan, we discussed his time in the Marines, his gym in Sacramento, as well as how he grew a large following on YouTube. The part I appreciated the most was that inadvertently Alan shared some great life lessons about discipline and perseverance, he's truly someone who is a doer and learns first and foremost from experience! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jakeparker/support

  • Episode 30: Big Idea Saturday- Stop Being Embarrassed About What You Love

    03/08/2019 Duration: 10min

The idea for this podcast came from my chat with Mike Matthews on the Muscle for Life Podcast, I included the link at the bottom if you haven't listened yet. If you're sick of hearing me talk about it I promise this is one of the last times, I'm just very proud of having the opportunity as it's something that's been a goal of mine for a long time! Anyway- in this podcast I discuss the neuroticism I've had in the past about health and fitness and how I've largely overcome it. I also share a couple some weird/embarrassing stories to highlight just how aberrant my habits and behaviors used to be. The theme I tried to embody is that you should be open and honest about what you like and what you care about, something I didn't do for a long time. This will enable you to learn more and make connections you otherwise wouldn't. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/muscle-for-life-with-mike-matthews/id671863400?i=1000445789262

  • Episode 24: Johnny Dzubak on Dating

    01/07/2019 Duration: 59min

My friend, Johnny, co-hosts The Art of Charm Podcast and Bootcamp. The most recent AoC topic was dating and the guys talked about a lot of interesting ideas around the topic. In listening, I framed the conversations in terms of what it looks like to date in a new environment (new city/post college life for me) and so I wanted to talk with Johnny about this. Along the way we discuss limerence or falling in love with the idea of falling in love, as well as nervousness, overthinking, and the pros and cons of dating in the digital age with apps like Tinder and Bumble. And of course we got off on some conversation about self-improvement as a couple like-minded self improvement junkies tend to do. :) Here's the link to the start of the AoC Podcasts on dating https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-art-of-charm/id212382281?i=1000437311098 and a link to the Art of Charm website where you can find out more about their classes centered around improving your soft skills and becoming more confident! https://theartofcha

    24/06/2019 Duration: 26min

I may be biased :) but I think these two are extremely successful in their respective fields, and they've learned a lot since beginning their careers as a teacher and a lawyer around my age. Something I value tremendously is the advice of people who are older and more experienced than me, especially in the context of advice they wish they had at my age. This and more I discussed with my parents which involved networking, getting involved, and what it was like seeing technology and the internet take off over their lifetimes and careers.
