Dark City Dark City is a 1998 neo-noir science fiction film directed by Alex Proyas and starring Rufus Sewell, Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly, Richard O'Brien, and William Hurt. The screenplay was written by Proyas, Lem Dobbs, and David S. Goyer. Sewell plays John Murdoch, an amnesiac man who finds himself suspected of murder. The Space Brains discuss the noir style, nature vs nurture and a lot about the influences and homages in Dark City. The possibility that Dark City is actually the sequel to Mary Poppins is raised. Metropolis Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist science-fiction drama film directed by Fritz Lang. Written by Thea von Harbou in collaboration with Lang, it stars Gustav Fröhlich, Alfred Abel, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, and Brigitte Helm. Erich Pommer produced it in the Babelsberg Studios for Universum Film A.G. The silent film is regarded as a pioneering science-fiction movie, being among the first feature-length movies of that genre. This is a challenging film for some as it is a silent feature, however we certainly talk a lot about it. The Space Brains discuss the central themes, the conflict with Nazi Germany, the edited versions and the strong message of hope at the core. Set in Chicago, the film follows a police officer and a reptile expert to track a giant murderous sewer alligator, flushed down the toilet years earlier, that is attacking residents after escaping from the sewers. Seng and starring Cornelia Gröschel, Tim Oliver Schultz and Wotan Wilke Möhring. It’s great to step outside the Hollywood paradigm to see how other cultures express themselves through film. Though Freaks follows a familiar set of storytelling beats, the visual and auditory expression is distinctly Germanic / European. In this episode we discuss the gritty down-to-earth approach to the superhero genre and the way morality and ethics come to the fore. The Matrix The Matrix is a 1999 American science fiction action film written and directed by the Wachowskis, and produced by Joel Silver. It stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano and is the first installment in the Matrix franchise. Episode 50 is a big one and so we chose a big classic. We do not doubt that The Matrix was and still is an amazing film full of everything that makes sci fi great. The effects, style and themes of The Matrix have influenced film and television for the past two decades and will surely continue to do so into the next two. On the moon, the father is driven by greed, and the two encounter dangerous strangers in the forest. The film tells the story of a neuroscientist who violates the law and bioethics to bring his family members back to life after they die in a car accident. It stars Keanu Reeves, Alice Eve and Thomas Middleditch.

Surrogates is a 2009 American science fiction action film based on the 2005–2006 comic book series The Surrogates. Directed by Jonathan Mostow, it stars Bruce Willis as Tom Greer, an FBI agent who ventures out into the real world to investigate the murder of surrogates (humanoid remote-controlled robots). It also stars Radha Mitchell, Rosamund Pike, Boris Kodjoe, Ving Rhames, and James Cromwell.
