#8 The Rhino Gig Economy
23/05/2019 Duration: 01h09minS1E8: 'The Alien Costume Part One'. Face front, true believers! This week we overcome some software issues and delve into the first part of a trilogy that'll bring us into the world of symbiotes and some of the best '80s Spider-Man comics have to offer. This time Henry and Jack are distracted by Aerosmith, the Rhino is stuck in a zero-hour contract and the tightest costume in the business, and Kingpin just wants his bread. While the cast come together for the opening of this mini-saga, Spider-Man tries to do the right thing - but things go all John Wick 3 thanks to the Spider-Man Justice System. Then, after our talk about the eighth episode of the series, we look into the origins of Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man #41-43, and how he eventually comes into play in the pages of The Incredible Hulk. Then, we touch on the alien costume from the comics with a look back to Secret Wars #8. #7 Jungle Music Intensifies
06/05/2019 Duration: 01h24minS1E7: 'Kraven the Hunter'. Face front true believers! This time we're delving into what is the most ridiculous episode of the Spider-Man: The Animated Series yet, with one Russian jungle-themed maniac called Kraven. Henry is in love with him, Robbie Robertson is confused by him, and Jack is too busy wondering how Zero Waste Blanka fits into all of this. Then, after our talk about the seventh episode of the series, we look into the origins of Kraven in The Amazing Spider-Man #15. We also touch on Sony's plans for a cinematic universe, and Henry pitches a Kraven movie that might just work... To see some comic panels and other additional material to go along with the later segments, check out the full podcast notes at: https://that90sspidermanshow.home.blog/2019/05/06/episode-7-kraven-the-hunter/ A podcast for no one. #6 Everybody Hates Scorpion
21/04/2019 Duration: 01h07minFace front, true believers! This episode we're covering S1E6: 'The Sting of the Scorpion'. Wherever Mac 'MRA' Gargan goes, insults follow. Is this cruel and unfair? Yes. Does he deserve this? The answer is also yes. His monkey's paw wish to become one of Spider-Man's greatest villains doesn't exactly work out well for him, so he's left with the curse of being dunked on by everyone he meets, including the extra-dimensional beings recording a podcast about him. Robbie Robertson on the other hand... is a father figure to us all. Meanwhile, we find out why Jonah hates Spider-Man so much, what millennial invention can be credited to Peter Parker, and discuss the insurance policies of the frequently-exploding Oscorp. Then, after talking about the sixth episode of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, we look into the origins of Scorpion in The Amazing Spider-Man #20! #5 Everybody Loves Mysterio
13/04/2019 Duration: 01h50minFace front, true believers! This episode we're covering S1E5: 'The Menace of Mysterio'. Jack loves Mysterio. Henry loves Mysterio. Mysterio definitely loves Mysterio. Now that we're all on the same page, we can finally talk about Uncle Ben, John Cusack, and DynoMutt, Dog Wonder. Aside from the rabbit hole of the dog superheroes wikipedia category, we can discuss martian worker's rights laws and ask: Is there anything J Jonah Jameson WON'T fund? After our talk about the fifth episode of the series, we look into the origins of Mysterio in The Amazing Spider-Man #13. Then, for the fifth (and final, sorta) Weird Lore BS Corner, Jack talks to Henry about yet another animal-based supervillain who doesn't quite make it into Spider-Man rogues gallery, despite his best efforts. Is it a sex thing? That's the question posed by this episode. And answered. Immediately. It's NOT a sex thing. #4 Doctor Octopus Logs In
21/03/2019 Duration: 01h41minFace front, true believers! This episode we're covering S1E4: 'Doctor Octopus: Armed and Dangerous'. Henry and Jack have a lot to say about Doc Ock. Is he a dark mirror image of Peter Parker? How many legs does he have anyway? And how exactly does he buy clothes in the first place? Will comic book science give Henry an aneurysm, or will he relax and embrace the Spider-mobile? After our talk about the fourth episode of the series, we look into the origins of Doctor Octopus all the way back in The Amazing Spider-Man #3. Then, for the fourth Weird Lore BS Corner, Jack talks to Henry about one of the most ridiculous and (in its own way) iconic Doc Ock storylines. This week some technical difficulties involving a wild raccoon mean that we've seen an audio downgrade, but we've more than made up for it with more podcast titles than you can shake a mechanical tentacle at. #3 Giant Spider Robot Family Therapy
10/03/2019 Duration: 01h07minFace front, true believers! This episode we're covering S1E3: 'The Return of the Spider Slayers'. Alistair Smythe is back and that mullet seems to be cutting off the circulation to his brain, because he's got some needlessly elaborate schemes and *even more* spider robots to finish the job. Henry and Jack delve into what turns out to be the most fun episode yet, and not just because Eddie Brock has the worst day of his life. After our talk about the third episode of the series, we look into the origins of Alistair Smythe in the obscure and absurd The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #19. And then, for our third entry into the weird lore bs corner, Jack talks to Henry about some of the strangest editions to the extended Spider-verse family. A podcast for no one. If we get anything wrong, a wizard did it. #2 No Spider Splat, No Hoverchair
27/02/2019 Duration: 01h42minFace front, true believers! This episode we're covering S1E2: 'The Spider Slayer'. There's a lot to cover here, from the Smythe family's unhealthy obsession with spiders to the Osborn family's baffling and frankly medically worrying haircuts. Henry and Jack talk about the second episode of the series, before looking into the origins of the many introductions here - namely Spencer Smythe in The Amazing Spider-Man #25. As for our weird lore, Jack takes Henry to 'Kangaroo Country' to jump slightly higher than usual. That's right, we're talking about one of the strangest members of Spider-Man's rogues gallery, and his first appearance in the uniquely depressing and goofy TASM #81. A podcast for no one. If we get anything wrong, a wizard did it. #1 Curt Conners, the Original Florida Man
14/02/2019 Duration: 01h19minFace front, true believers! This episode we're covering S1E1: 'The Night of the Lizard'. There's a lot to unpack here, namely: Is John Malkovich the perfect casting for Mary Jane? How smart is Peter Parker anyway? Is The Lizard trying to start a inter-species war, or just a WeWork in the sewers? Henry and Jack check out the pilot episode to get some answers, before delving into the origins of the villain from The Amazing Spider-Man #6. Then, Jack has some strange lore to share with Henry from Spidey Super Stories #25. If you've heard of it before now, you're one weird dude. A podcast for no one. If we get anything wrong, a wizard did it.
