29/06/2023 Duration: 09minYpe de Bruin was a key figure in the Dutch community in Melbourne and Victoria; he was one of the founders of the Dutch Australian Heritage Centre, president of the Dutch Association in Victoria for many years and the first chairman of DutchCare. His efforts did not go unnoticed as he was honored with both a Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau (1988) and an Order of Australia Medal (1998). On June 13, Ype passed away in Queensland, at the age of 89. We reminisce with Michael Gijsberts, who knew him for over 40 years and worked closely with him for a long time. - Ype de Bruin was jarenlang een sleutelfiguur binnen de Nederlandse community in Melbourne en Victoria. Zo was hij een van de oprichters van het Dutch Australian Heritage Centre, jarenlang voorzitter van de Nederlandse Associatie in Victoria en was hij de eerste voorzitter van DutchCare. Top Dutch Solar Racing unveils new solar-powered race car - Top Dutch Solar Racing onthult nieuwe raceauto op zonne-energie
27/06/2023 Duration: 08minRight across central Australia in a solar-powered car. That's what the World Solar Challenge, a 3000 kilometre race from Darwin to Adelaide, is about. Teams from around the world participate in the biannual competition, which in the past, has often been won by teams from the Netherlands. This year, Top Dutch Solar Racing from Groningen hopes to claim victory with their Green Thunder vehicle. Reporter Jeroen Schouten spoke to one of the drivers Mourad Mougou. - Dwars door het midden van Australië in een auto op zonne-energie. Daar gaat het om bij de World Solar Challenge, een race van 3000 kilometer van Darwin naar Adelaide. Teams vanuit de hele wereld doen mee aan de twee jaarlijkse wedstrijd, die in het verleden al vaak is gewonnen door een team uit Nederland. This year's event is being hosted by Australia and New Zealand. SBS Dutch looked for orange supporters, and spoke with former Kiwi international Maia Jackman, Bondi lifeguard and Beyond Greatness ambassador Bruce 'Hoppo' Hopkins and American football legend Joy Fawcett, among others. - De allervroegste vogels verzamelden zich vanmorgen (25 juni) om zes uur op de Sydney Harbour Bridge om te vieren dat over 25 dagen het FIFA WK voetbal voor vrouwen van start gaat. Het evenement wordt dit jaar georganiseerd door Australië en Nieuw-Zeeland. He worked with greats like Wim Sonneveld, Annie M.G. Schmidt and Harry Bannink. - Willem Nijholt is op 88-jarige leeftijd in zijn slaap overleden. Nijholt was een mutlitalent en kon zingen, dansen en acteren. Hij verscheen in programma's voor zowel kinderen als volwassenen. Hij werkte met grootheden als Wim Sonneveld, Annie M.G. Vietnam veteran Rieny Nieuwenhof honoured with Order of Australia Medal - Vietnamveteraan Rieny Nieuwenhof geëerd met Order of Australia Medal
16/06/2023 Duration: 10minRieny Nieuwenhof came to Australia in 1954, with his parents, when he was only 5 years old. He grew up near Geelong, studied to become a teacher, but was drafted in 1971 and deployed to Vietnam. Today, Rieny is the president of the Geelong and District Vietnam Veterans Association, and for his services to the veteran community, he was honoured with the Order of Australia Medal. - Op King’s Birthday worden traditioneel Koninklijke onderscheidingen uitgedeeld. Een van de mensen die dit jaar de Order of Australia Medal in ontvangst mag nemen is Rieny Nieuwenhof. Als klein jongetje kwam hij in 1954 met zijn ouders naar Australië. Hij groeide op in de buurt van Geelong, studeerde om leraar te worden, maar werd in 1971 opgeroepen voor de dienstplicht en werd uitgezonden naar Vietnam. Tegenwoordig is Rieny de voorzitter van de Geelong en District Vietnam Veterans Association en voor het vrijwilligerswerk wat hij daar doet krijgt hij de onderscheiding.
