08/02/2021 Duration: 02h17minWay back in episode 23, we dissected and discussed Akira, the seminal manga by Katsuhiro Otomo. Occasionally, we do enjoy talking about film or television adaptations of comics, and this week we decided to tackle the Akira anime film, which is rightfully hailed as a landmark classic. Episode 62: Invincible Volumes 1-3
01/02/2021 Duration: 02h29minJoin as as we begin our complete read-through of Invincible by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, Ryan Ottley, and Bill Crabtree! Once a month, we'll do an episode covering approximately a year's worth of issues of the series. Invincible went for 144 issues, so that'll probably take us to the end of the year if all goes according to schedule. In this episode, we cover issues 1-13. (These issues are contained in volumes 1, 2, and 3 if you're getting the trade paperbacks, or volume 1 of the deluxe hardcover. There are also three massive compendiums collecting the entire series. And of course, you can find them digitally on Comixology, too.) We talk about what we appreciate about Invincible as a series in general, and dive deep into what we thought about these first 13 issues. We also take some time to talk a little bit about the best (or worst) comic book fathers, the upcoming Invincible animated series set to debut on Amazon Prime, and whether our listeners would prefer to be nicknamed "Gutter Trash" or "In-Betweene

Episode 61: The Marvel Top 25 Addendum 2
24/01/2021 Duration: 03h19minIn this second addendum to our recently-completed Marvel top 25 comics countdown, we talk about a bunch of Marvels that we love, but just couldn't include in the final list. Hey, just because we have a lot of favorites doesn't mean we can't be objective! The list is the list. We also take the time to discuss most of the prominent Marvel comics that most people would have expected to find on a top 25 list, and we talk about why some of those didn't make ours. (Lookin' at you, Claremont Uncanny X-Men comics.) This episode is a direct continuation of our previous episode, and Sheynis is with us as we journey across the Marvel universe! Episode 59: The Vision and WandaVision
10/01/2021 Duration: 03h49sWhat's up, In-Betweeners! With WandaVision coming out very soon, we thought it would be timely to examine and discuss The Vision by Tom King and Gabriel Hernandez Walta, seeing as how it's one of the most obvious points of influence. There's a spoiler-free review, and then we'll warn you when we get to our spoiler-full analysis. After we discuss the book, we take some time to shoot the breeze about our educated speculations regarding WandaVision, and we also talk about some of the most absurd elements of Wanda and Vision's comics history. As usual, NEVER make a deal with a devil... or you may end up with a pair of demons attached to your wrists instead of hands! Feel free to comment, or email us at betweenthegutterspodcast@gmail.com! The rest of the the DCU continues on the way we'd expect it to, for the most part, but without Superman in the picture, the way their world views superheroes turns out much differently. Episode 45 - Spider-Man Crossovers and Events
03/10/2020 Duration: 03h03minTalking about X-Men crossovers and events last time around led to a side conversation about Spider-Man crossovers and events. That side conversation led to this episode, where we discuss the Spidey crossovers we appreciate, and a bunch of of the ones that didn't really work for us. We also tried to examine WHY it is that we had trouble being interested in so many Spidey-centric crossovers and events, when both of us have a lot of love for Spider-Man. All this, plus Albert not only does his 1920s Chicago gangster voice, but a Gambit impression! Feel free to comment, or email us at betweenthegutterspodcast@gmail.com!
