  • Session Zero: MÖRK BORG

    05/01/2021 Duration: 52min

"Life Locked and Failing in a DARK FORT" We crash back into another Session Zero flailing for our lives in the madness of MÖRK BORG. "Name Your Character If You Wish. It Will Not Save You" MÖRK BORG dominated at the 2020 Ennies winning awards in Product of the Year, Best Writing, and Best Layout and Design, along with walking away with silver in Best Game. And once you hold the book in your hand you know exactly why it won in all those categories. MÖRK BORG screams off of every page and draws you into the pitch-black heavy metal world of the apocalypse where your characters’ lives are fleeting and pointless and the stakes are so high no one will triumph for long. Rather than make a single character each, Justin and Jo made three characters. You see, in MÖRK BORG your characters might not last very long so it’s a good thing that character creation takes literally seconds to complete. Four dice rolls and a very lean equipment management system and you’re back in the game. You can mourn the loss of your previous

  • Spotlight: The Critshow

    23/12/2020 Duration: 42min

Today in a Terrible Warriors Podcast Spotlight, Justin connects with Rev from The Critshow!  The Critshow is in their 3rd season of playing Monster of the Week but that wasn't what they had originally intended to do. Days before they had planned to launch their pathfinder actual play podcast they sat down and recorded a dummy session using Monster of the Week as a stand-in game. After recording the tech demo they realized they had stumbled up the real show they wanted to make.  The Critshow has since expanded to include Tales from the Omniverse, a series travelling between multiple words and game rules, and have invited developers of the games they're playing to join them on the show. Currently their working closely with the creator of Rapscallion as they play through a Patreon exclusive campaign called Perilous Tides.  Rev has put a lot of thought into the show he's producing and the intentions behind that show and I'm sure you're going to love listening to The Critshow as much as I have.  You can follow

  • Meet the Makers: Grant Howitt

    18/02/2020 Duration: 51min

Before venturing into the world of The Spire we thought it would be a good idea to talk to one of it's creators. Thankfully he agreed to the conversation!  Grant Howitt is the co-creator of Spire, co-owner of Rowan, Rook, and Decard and the mind behind games such as Goblin Quest, Unbound, One Last Job, and Honey Heist! He's also got a writing credit in the Paranoia Reboot that we loved so much last year.  In our conversation he shared with us how the Spire came to be, the ways the community has responded to it, advice for new GMs venturing into Spire for the first time, and at least one detail he may regret having fought to be included in the game (in his defense it probably sounded very funny at the time).  Be sure to follow Grant on twitter at @gshowitt and check out his own Patreon page where he regularly posts new one-page RPGs to enjoy.  And starting next week we return to our Actual-Play format and begin out campaign to journey through and experience The Spire for ourselves.  Terrible Warriors is m

  • Meet the Makers: Sharang Biswas

    18/01/2020 Duration: 42min

Recorded in the halls of BreakoutCon2019 we got to a chance to meet Sharang Biswas. Sharang makes weird games, the kind of games you'll most likely come across in an art gallery installation rather than a convention room floor. But along with making those games he's also involved as an educator and writer examining how we play games and how we can better design them to convey the stories and experiences we're trying to share in those games.  Whatever conversation I thought I was going to have I quickly realized I was in way over my head about five minutes in and just immersed myself in the knowledge he was willing to share with me. Sharang has given the "how" part of how we play games some serious thought and I hope you enjoy the conversation we got to share. It's certainly informed me the next time I sat down to play a game!  To find out more about Sharang be sure to follow him on twitter at @sharangbiswas and visit https://sharangbiswas.myportfolio.com/ and you can find a selection of his games on Drive

Over the next half hour we talk about those games, about how they got into writing for tabletop RPGs, and some of the considerations that go into crafting interactive fiction. To find out more about Banana Chan be sure to follow them on twitter at @bananachangames Special thanks to BreakoutCon for offering us access to the convention to interview all of their amazing guests.
