The sports world’s language is absolutely lethal. And, it’s killing me! My words may sound depressing, but don’t blame me. Blame the morbid manner the media reports on sports. Seems like ever time you tune into ESPN, sportscasters assault you with foreboding phraseology? Their woeful words make you feel like you just got clunked on the head….. by a coffin. Now this guy is a real sports superstar.  Driving his clunky vehicle is the dream of all hockey fans like me.  We yearn to climb behind the wheel of this tractor and take charge of the ice.   Who doesn’t envy the Zamboni driver?  He’s the operator of the baddest sports maintenance vehicle on the planet?  He’s got the best seat in the rink as he chugs down the ice.  MIKE on sports, sports humor, American sports culture, fun sports facts, Zamboni, hockey, sports history, sports stuff you should know  

I call this silly spectacle one of the dumbest things in sports.  We witness this “poor shooting party” whenever we watch hoops.  And, it doesn’t matter if it’s a high school, college or pro game.  The “failed free throw festivity” happens every stinkin’ time teams take the court.  The senseless celebration occurs when players approach their brick-laying teammate at the foul line.  Oddly, they congratulate the failed marksman with high fives and pats to the butt – even after he just clanged an important freebie from 15’. It’s a sensitive question I’ve always wanted to ask. And, it may lead to my nuttiest MIKE on Sports! podcast yet. What’s the deal with the sports bra? No one EVER talks about this prized piece of athletic attire.  Why is this over-the-shoulder bolder holder only for women.  Because it needs to be for men, too. Before the metaphorical twit hits the fan, let me confess that I don’t like Twitter. You see, I’m an old-school-write-it-out-in-long-form-type-of-guy who really gives a twit about sports journalism.  I take my sports writing very seriously.  I’m not a proponent of horse-twit wanna-bees who always seem to live on Twitter. These young bucks think sports journalism is shooting the twit in abbreviations that cover only a couple lines of text.  So, why do sports fans tolerate this nonsense? This big mouthed sports fan bogarts his way into today’s podcast. He’s that bloviator who seems to bark instead of speak.  He’s that schnook who’s seen and heard at nearly every game in every sport at every level.  He’s that blowhard you definitely don’t want sitting next to you - especially when you’re plunking down what seems like a mortgage payment to take your kids, or that special date, to a game. The heckler is that obnoxious fan who takes pride in playing the role of a home crowd irritator in the stands. That’s right! He’s that blustering boob who constantly maligns the visiting team’s players – all – game - long. I know she’s NOT an athlete And, she’s definitely out of shape. But, this popular chubby chick sings her way into today’s podcast. She’s that likeable large lady known as the famous Fat Lady of sports lore. She’s that elusive woman who is sometimes talked about, but never seen, at American sports events that take longer than expected to finish. But, few sports fans know the genesis of how a pleasantly plump German opera singer from the 1800’s became part of American sports culture.
